The Allen-Bradley 1783-ETAP embedded switch is an Ethernet/IP network port that belongs to the Ethernet/IP built-in switch technology product line that is manufactured and designed by Allen-Bradley. Ethernet/IP technology allows devices to connect and communicate with each other through a linear network switch. This technology offers different alternatives to connect devices that incorporate the use of switches. The Allen-Bradley 1783-ETAP Ethernet/IP network embedded switch allows the users to connect devices that are not compatible with switch technology to a linear network. It contains 2 network ports made of copper that allow for a connection between the socket and linear networks. To configure the sockets with the Allen-Bradley 1783-ETAP Ethernet/IP network embedded switch, it is necessary to install the RSLogix5000 programming software in version 17.01. It is only necessary to program 1 of these sockets as a ring supervisor. The firmware of this device comes in the 1.1 and 2.x versions.
The network with the Allen-Bradley 1783-ETAP Ethernet/IP network embedded switch can be monitored for as long as the current firmware of the socket allows. This monitoring can be done through the RSLogix 5000 programming software status pages, through the RSLinx program status pages, or through the device's web pages. The difference between these 2 firmware versions is that version 1.1 does not accept device web-pages whereas version 2.x does. It is necessary to update the firmware version if the status of communications need to be monitored. The Allen-Bradley 1783-ETAP Ethernet/IP network port can operate at up to 100 Megabytes per second in the DLR network. This speed can change depending on the number of devices that are connected.
