The Allen-Bradley 1769-SDN is a DeviceNet Scanner communication module compatible for 1769 CompactLogix or MicroLogix 1500 system. It communicates to 1769-ADN DeviceNet adapters and other DeviceNet enabled devices through the integrated DeviceNet communication port of the module with communication rates of 125k bit/s, 250k bit/s, and 500k bit/s. This module supports DIN rail or panel mounting.
The Allen-Bradley 1769-SDN is a PLC that operates as a CompactLogix DeviceNet Scanner Communication Module. Through the 1769-SDN, communication between the CompactLogix controllers, the MicroLogix 1500 programmable controllers, and the DeviceNet devices is possible. This module measures 118x 87 x 35 millimeters in dimensions, including its mounting tabs which is 138 mm. This module weighs approximately 280 grams or 0.61 pounds and has a maximum Bus Current Draw of 440 mA at 5 Volts DC (2.2 Watts) maximum heat dissipation of 3.8 Watts.
The 1769-SDN should not be installed anywhere that contains volatile or corrosive gas, vapors, or dust in the ambient atmosphere. The 1769-SDN has an operating temperature of 0 to 60 degrees Celsius or 32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit and it should not be stored anywhere in a corrosive atmosphere. The maximum cable distance between this module and the connected PowerFlex 4-Class drives is 10 meters. The maximum cable length must be 500 meters at 125K baud and 100 meters at 500K baud. The 1769-SDN cannot be located more than 4 modules away from the power supply, thus, it has a Power Supply Distance Rating of 4. Its DeviceNet power requirements are N.E.C. Class 2 90 mA at 11 Volts DC, 110 mA at 25 Volts DC, and 200 mA for 1.5 milliseconds. The 1769-SDN is able to read inputs and write outputs to and from slave devices, communicate with peer devices, and load programs to a 1764-LRP-based controller across a given DeviceNet network.
The Allen-Bradley 1769-SDN is a CompactLogix communication module. Specifically, this module is a DeviceNet scanner module used for exchanging information with fellow DeviceNet adapters and other DeviceNet enabled devices such as Adjustable Frequency AC Drives, Servo Drives and other equipment. This scanner serves as interface between DeviceNet devices and the programmable controller it is attached to.
The DeviceNet scanner established connection to the network by searching for properly configured DeviceNet adapter. The scanner sends strobe, poll, change of state, or cyclic I/O messages to solicit and deliver data to every device in the network. The received data is gathered and organized which is then accessed by the processor for implementing specific user logic related to the data collected.
This module requires configuration tools and software packages particularly RSLinx and RSNetworx for specifying and tracing validity of connection while RSLogix500 if used with a MicroLogix 1500, RSLogix5000 or Studio 5000 Logix Designer if used with a CompactLogix controller are the software tools and programming software required to configure the module. As a minimum, RSLinx is required to browse the device from the network.
The 1769-SDN does not require an external power supply as other module does. The backplane provides energization voltage to the module’s circuitry. Module installation is done by directly inserting t oany available slot in the controller assembly. When doing so, verify if the position of the module is within the required Power Supply Distance rating of Four (4).
During power-up, the module conducts self-test. When finished with the self-test, the scanner goes active and immediately executes the configurations setting it is programmed with. The default settings of the scanner module are communication rate of 125kbps and Node address 63.
